Bronny James scores 3 points in 29 minutes as Lakers lose summer league lead.

Bronny James accomplished everything in his second summer league game, but the Lakers' youth lost again.

The son of LeBron James scored three points on 1-of-3 shooting, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks, two steals, and two mistakes in 29 minutes of an 80-76 loss to the Miami Heat Dalton Knecht, the Lakers' first-round pick, scored 20 points on 7-of-18 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds.

The Lakers lost an eight-point lead with 3 1/2 minutes left. Keshad Johnson and Alondes Williams led the Heat with 21 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.

As with most summer league performances, the younger James had good and poor moments. His effect was greatest on defence, his most advanced skill entering the 2024 NBA Draft.

Social media took advantage of any lowlight, unfair or not. Like James' summer league debut, he scored four points in 21 minutes of a loss. Knee swelling kept him out of the Lakers' second game.

James' on-court performance is almost irrelevant. The Lakers wouldn't mind if he reached his potential as a facilitating point guard who can hinder the other team's defence,

but there's a reason he only worked out for the Lakers and the Phoenix Suns and why they gave him a four-year, guaranteed contract after selecting him 55th overall.

James and his father will become the first NBA father-son duo, another sign of LeBron's endurance. This doesn't require much summer league training, but Bronny must prove he can stay in the league without his father's influence.
