Kawhi Leonard leaves Team USA for Paris Olympics.

Leonard played 68 NBA games in 2023-24 despite severe knee pain and inflammation.

He attended every Team USA practice and scrimmage before the Paris Games, but Leonard and team staff believed his knee would hamper him during the Olympics.

After injuring his ACL in the 2021 postseason, Leonard missed the whole 2021-22 NBA season and played only two games in 2023 due to a damaged meniscus.

He indicated earlier this month that the Clippers were "not really" concerned about him participating for Team USA.

Leonard claimed "they were positive about the situation". "So, yeah, they wasn't too worried about it."

Derrick White of the Celtics will replace him. White was on the seventh-place 2019 FIBA World Cup team.

Team USA plays Canada in Las Vegas on Wednesday night for its pre-Olympic exhibition. Next week, they'll play Australia and Serbia in the UAE before finishing the tour in London against South Sudan and Germany.

Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico will face Team USA in the Olympic group stage in Lille, France, starting July 28.
